Jammu colleges have no vacancy for Public Admin subject
Engaging faculty on academic arrangement

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 24: The department of Higher Education advertised posts of Public Administration for engaging faculty on academic-arrangement basis but after getting applications and their scrutiny, it said there was no vacancy for the subject in the colleges evoking resentment among the aspirants.
The aspirants informed Early Times that in the third week of June, the department of Higher Education advertisement the posts for engagement of Lecturers as well as Teaching Assistant on academic arrangement basis for the subject of Public Administration.
Over five dozen candidates filled the application forms and the Nodal Principal GGM Science College called the candidates for verification of the documents. "After verification of the documents, the department uploaded the final merit list of candidates with a total of 57 candidates and then department sought "Preference of College" from the candidates", the candidates said, adding that at that moment, the department claimed that there were no posts of the subjects available in the colleges.
"If the posts were not available, then why the applications were called from us and why entire process was initiated. We spend money on forms as well as to visit Jammu to get documents verified but the department's reply of having no posts is disturbing and disgusting", the candidates alleged.
They further said that there were no efforts from the authorities to promote new subjects in the colleges.
"The subject was actually not introduced in most of the colleges, where it was supposed to be introduced. If students will not find subject in the College Brochure, then how will they opt for a subject", the candidates said.
A College Professor pleading anonymity said that at College level, there was a policy to discourage the new subjects while the regular teaching faculty members of traditional subjects, pursued the students to get their subjects. "The so called choice based subjects is restricted to documents only but at college level, students are not getting subjects of their choice but the subjects as per choice imposed by the teaching faculty, which is virtually ruining the efforts made by administration", the professor claimed, adding that an enquiry must be ordered by administration to know about the lacunas.
Director Colleges Yaseen Ahmad Shah said that the new subjects were introduced in the colleges and if students would opt for the new courses then only the faculty members would be engaged. "Same could be the case with Public Administration subject as Colleges have not send vacancies of the subject, so faculty members are not engaged", Shah said.
