Choked drains, dilapidated roads, lanes expose developmental claims

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 26: Chocked drains, dilapidated roads and lanes of Rahim Nagar locality have expose the tall claims of successive legislators about the development of Gandhi Nagar constituency.
The legislators have virtually neglected the locality and the former legislator visited the area only once and gave only fake assurance for no avail.
The residents of Rahim Nagar locality Asif Ahmed, Satya Devi, Umar Malik, Zakir Hussain, Tarif Hussain, Iftikar Lodhi, Altaf Hussain, Shamima Akhter, Atiq Khan and Naveen informed Early Times that a drain constructed at one side of the locality had got blocked after few months of its construction.
"The water from upper areas ultimately passes through the area and due to choked drain, it overflows to the road and ultimately flood water entered into the shops of the locals", the locals said, adding that due to a big pothole created on the road, the public transport facility has also stopped.
The residents further claimed that the main nullah, which meandered from the locality has been flooding in the rainy season. "It was only the first rain and the nullah was over-flooding and at many places, it eats away a portion of bank, due to which the nearby structures have become unsafe and endangering them", the residents further said.
The residents also claimed that none from the government authorities visited the locality and took care of the problems being faced by them. "This nullah passes just behind our houses and to save the foundation, we have to construct the drain by spending money from our own pocked", they said, adding that though they have been paying taxes but on account of basic amenities they have been getting nothing.
Garbage, polythene, cow dung was found littered all across the lanes in the locality, which was emanating foul smell. "The authorities have not installed any dustbin in the area due to which, the locals throw garbage into a vacant plot and some of the locals throw garbage in the lanes and by lanes", they said, adding that the sweepers never visited the locality due to which the chocked drains were never cleaned.
The road was constructed years back. "It was dug up to lay down the sewerage line but the authorities forget the same after laying of sewerage line, leaving the road in total dilapidated condition", the residents said, adding that the successive legislators have totally neglected the area and they only cared for votes.
