Jammu, Aug 1: Accusing the leaders of usuing as a tool to increase their vote bank, the residents of Doda Basti said that they migrated here from Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri district when the militancy in state was on its peak, but unfortunately, the administration did not bother to listen to us.
The residents said that most of the people are registered voters of Gandhi Nagar constituency now, and remaining have applied for the same, soon all of us will be eligible voters, but unfortunately, the parities have used them for their interests, no one comes here to know our sufferings.
The residents including Altaf Hussain, Jeevan Singh Rana, Veer Singh, Satpal Sharma, Davinder Singh, Manpreet Singh, Geeta Devi, Vidya Devi, Kunj Lal, Rajinder Singh Chouhan, Wali Mohammad Khan, Lal Hussian Khan and others informed Early Times team during rain entire locality goes submerged in filthy water due to water logging.
"We don't have drains and roads here, though we made temporary arrangements on our own but, unfortunately, despite lapse of 25 years when we settled here the administration did not bother to blacktop our roads", they said, adding that Ex-MLA Kavinder Gupta visited along with other leaders visited this area first time during 2019-Lok Sabha elections.
"We cannot walk to our nearby houses during rain, and the area remains waterlogged for many days after even a minor rain, and you can imagine what we are going through these days", the residents said in one voice.
"If we go to JMC, they ask us to go to JDA, and JDA further advises us to meet cantonment authorities, and we are running from pillar to post for the past 25 years now without results", they said, adding that thousands Kanal of state land have encroached till date, but the authorities instead of taking action against the land mafia, keep harassing us. "Yesterday a team from Revenue department came here and demolished a temporary shed, where he used to run a shop, the occupant of the shed is a physically disabled, they administration finds easy to bulldoze us, as we are laying here like destitute", they said, adding that this time they use power of their vote for a change.
