Jammu, Nov 1: Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity day is celebrated every year on 31st October in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel who played a great role in unifying the country. National Unity Day was introduced by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's government in 2014 with the aim of celebrating this event every year on October 31. SKUAST-Jammu also celebrated Rashtriya Ekta Divas (National Unity Day) to commemorate the 144th birth Anniversary of the Iron Man of India. On this occasion, Dr. D.P. Abrol (Dean, Faculty of Agriculture) and Dr. Rajesh Katoch (Dean Students' Welfare) flagged off the 'Run for Unity' from University Main Gate, Chatha. They also administered unity pledge to the students. Dr. Abrol highlighted the contribution of Sardar Patel in India's struggle for independence, and later during the integration of the country. He further said that academic and professional unity and integrity has immense importance in professional institutes. Faculty member's viz. Dr. Parshant Baksi, Dr. Akhil Gupta, Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Dr. Arvinder Singh and Dr. Sheetal Dogra coordinated the event. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Rajesh Katoch (Dean Students' Welfare).
