Abdullah kin sign bond for release from jail
'Pledge not to disrupt peace'
11/1/2019 11:17:24 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: The close family members of former Chief Minister and Member Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah, who were recently detained for holding protests in Srinagar were released from jail only after they gave a written undertaking to the government that they "would not disrupt peace(in Kashmir any further)."
Sources said the women duo from Abdullah family signed the bond wherein they took pledge that they would not resort to protests any further nor would they "resort to any such activity that spoils" the atmosphere in Kashmir.
A senior official told Early Times that on being detained, the two women from the Abdullah family had argued with the concerned authorities that as to why they had been shifted to the Central Jail Srinagar after having been caught protesting by the Kothi Bagh Police Station in the commercial hub of Srinagar.
Sources said the officials had told them they could be released the moment they would give an undertaking for not resorting to any such activity in future.
"It's your choice. If you think that you will protest (against the government) after release then you won't be released but if you decide to behave properly like a sensible citizen and will give an undertaking, you will be released right there and then," a source quoted the officials as having told the detained women.
Sources said the Abdullah family members agreed to the deal and signed the bond and got released.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier this month, a group of over a dozen women including those from the Abdullah family were detained for taking out protests.
The women had said they were not with the abrogation of the special status and that it was their right to stage protests. They had also sought release of the jailed politicians including Dr Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah.
"But when given a choice to protest or get released, they instantly preferred to sign the bond," said an official on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that while Dr Abdullah has been detained under the Public Safety Act at his residence, Omar has been detained at the Hari Nivas Palace.
After the abrogation of the special status of Kashmir on August 5, the government had detained around two dozen senior politicians in Kashmir.
Despite repeated attempts the Abdullah family members were not available for comments.
