Chairman DLSA Jammu reviews implementation of Solid Waste Management programme

Jammu, Nov 1: Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu, R.K Wattal, today chaired a meeting to review implementation of Solid Waste Management programme besides encouraging the masses to discourage use of Single Use Plastic, littering and dumping of garbage in open spaces.
The meeting was attended by Pankaj Magotra, Commissioner, JMC Jammu, Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary DLSA Jammu, O.P Bhagat, Municipal Magistrate Jammu, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal Nodal Officer, Solid Waste Management, JMC, Suresh Gupta Health Officer, Balbir Sudan D.E.P.O and S.K Bhagat, Sr. Law Officer. The meeting discussed in detail the modalities and strategies for effective management of Solid Waste from its inception to its final disposal by involving all the stakeholders in accordance with Waste Management Laws/Rules to protect the environment. Chairman DLSA, stressed upon the need to educate the general public about the hazardous effects of bio degradable and non bio degradable waste, littering, dumping of garbage at vulnerable places. He asked for adopting Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Fixed Compactor Transfer Station (FCTS) to encourage recycling system including the waste generator in marriage parties, banquet halls, social functions. The hotels, restaurants, Malls, Private and Government Businesses should dispose waste into large sized containers rather than open spaces besides ensuring judicious use of Green and Blue bins and containers installed by JMC with an objective to keep Jammu, Clean, Green Beautiful , Plastic/Polythene Free, he added. "DLSA Jammu with and Jammu Municipal Corporation, in a collaborative effort, shall also educate the masses about the hazardous effects of plastic/polythene and different kinds of waste on the quality of Water, Air and Soil in a mission to protect our eco-system", the Chairman maintaied.
