Border areas will get focus in Ladakh: LG RK Mathur

Leh, Nov 1: Hours after swearing-in as the Lt. Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur on Thursday said border areas will get focus in the newly-created Union Territory.
"I believe borders need attention. In Ladakh, border areas will receive focus. The government of India already has many projects running in Ladakh. We will expand those and develop them more, LG RK Mathur told .
He said the focus will be on sensitive border areas.
A historic step has been taken, I am happy to be a part of the fulfillment of a demand that was there since 1948, said the retired IAS officer from Tripura cadre.
On concerns of uncontrolled tourism and land rights in Ladakh, the LG said, "Development will be inclusive of people and public concerns will be addressed. The LG is likely to hold meetings soon and speak to public delegations and various councils.
On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir became the first Indian State to be reduced to a Union Territory (UT), with ex-IAS officer Girish Murmu being sworn-in as the fist LG. With this, Ladakh also became a UT and IAS officer RK Mathur was sworn in as the LG of the newly-created UT.
Now, the Indian Union has 28 states and nine UTs.
