Transport Commissioner visits Panchayat Supwal
11/25/2019 10:35:50 PM

Early Times Report

Samba, Nov 25: J&K Transport Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmad today inspected stalls put in by various departments at Panchayat Supwal in Samba district.
During the visit, Dr. Ahmad lauded the role of the department of Horticulture Planning & Marketing in improving economic condition of farmers of Samba district by introducing modern grading, packing and branding techniques.
The visiting officer was shown the locally manufactured quality pickles, jams, barrian, sauces packed in environmentally friendly bottles with proper labels & branding. Even the locally grown white button Mashroom packs had labels with full information about the product and the producer. Such techniques have doubled the income of few farmers and the department is doing lot of efforts to motivate other farmers/ growers, also, to adopt latest techniques of grading, packing and branding.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Owais Ahmad said that, in today's era of globalisation, presentation of a product is as important as its quality.
The farmers/ growers have to adapt to such practices and also to construct low cost Zero Energy Cool Chambers, so as to store their product for few days within their farm and avoid panic sale; thus bypassing the market glut. Such indigenous traditional technology will also minimise post harvest losses of fruits & vegetables, which usually are 20% to 35% in India. Owais Ahmad asked the department officers to construct a Kissan Mandi in Supwal area, also, as made one functional at Tapyal.
Later, Dr. Owais Ahmad distributed cloth carry bags among villagers as identified by the Sarpanch of Supwal Panchayat. The environment friendly cloth carry bags were brought by the Local Management Committee Apni (Kissan) Mandi Tapyal. Among others present were ARTO Samba Rehana Anjum, BDO Rupinder Kour, AGMO Samba Anuj Verma, Sarpanch Supwal, Karan Singh, Bharat Bushan, Panchs and officials of other line departments.
