SRINAGAR, Nov 25: The Jammu & Kashmir government led by Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu has introduced transport subsidy scheme for replacement of old buses in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The scheme has been named as 'Jammu & Kashmir Transport Subsidy Scheme'. The sole aim and purpose of the scheme is replacement of old buses in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The office of Transport Commissioner, Jammu & Kashmir has issued the advertisement notice in this regard and the broad contours of the transport subsidy scheme have been made public through the advertisement notice. It would be pertinent to mention that Transport Commissioner is also the Chairperson of Transport Authority, Jammu & Kashmir.
The Transport Department has introduced scheme for phasing out of old buses over 15 years of age vide Govt. Order No. 73-TR of 2019 dated 19-11-2019 issued under endorsement No.TR-19/MVD/2017-II dated: 20-11-2019," reads the advertisement notice issued by Dr. Owais Ahmad, Transport Commissioner, J&K.
The advertisement notice further reads, "Accordingly applications are invited from the owners of the buses (except Mini Buses/Matadors) of J&K UT for purchase of new buses in private sector under the "Jammu & Kashmir Transport Subsidy Scheme" for replacement of old buses."
The Jammu & Kashmir Transport Subsidy Scheme has set out the terms and conditions for the transporters who wish to apply for the scheme and avail the benefits out of the same. At least five conditions have been set out for the transporters who wish to come under this subsidy scheme.
It has been clearly mentioned in the transport subsidy scheme that a bus aged 15 years shall be eligible for availing the subsidy. It has also been made clear that the existing vehicle should have cleared all the government dues including token tax, passenger tax, fitness fee, permit fee, bank liability etc.
The transport subsidy scheme has made it clear that for availing of subsidy the concerned owner would be required to condemn the vehicle and get it scrapped and after cancellation of registration mark, he shall be allowed to avail the subsidy.
By virtue of the advertisement notice it has been made clear that the vehicle should have a valid permit renewed up to date along with valid issuance certificate. It has been made clear that the subsidy shall be provided to only those applicants who shall avail loans to raise capital for purchase of these buses.
The applications along with all requisite supporting documents should reach in the Regional Transport Office Jammu/Kashmir/Kathua within a period of 10 days positively, reads the advertisement notice.
