Congress wakes up after deep slumber
11/25/2019 10:37:57 PM
Recently leaders of the Congress party appeared on the streets of Jammu city and staged a protest against the slowdown in economy and the rates of essential commodities shooting up. It was after long time that the Congress leaders came out of their homes and decided to express concern over the difficulties being faced by the people. The timing of the protest coincided with the political happenings in Maharashtra where Devendra Fadnavis in an unprecedented move approached the Governor on Saturday and staked the claim to form the government with NCP rebel leader Ajit Pawar, who was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
It seems Congress leaders took to the streets after getting upset due to political scene changing in Maharashtra all of the sudden as the Congress high command a day before had announced that it had stiched an alliance with the NCP and Shiv Sena to form the government in Maharashtra and it along with its allies would stake a claim to form the government. But before it could happen, the BJP turned tables on its political rivals and Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra. It looks like that Congress leaders and party workers were planning to celebrate the revival of Congress in Maharashtra but they instead of celebrating had to stage a protest to give vent to the ire against the BJP for not allowing them to even get a chance to become happy. The Congress party in Jammu & Kashmir has remained in hibernation after beibg ousted from power in 2014. The J&K unit of Congress party is in complete disarray as the infighting top leaders changing their sides have pushed the party to brink in the newly carved Union Territory of J&K. Leaders and the workers who are still with the party seem to have given up the hope about Congress getting revived in J&K and that too in new political set up which would come into being after the delimitation is completed.
Another setback which the Congress party faced in J&K was that it couldn't even win a single seat in the 2019 parliamentary elections in J&K and Ladakh. All the candidates fielded by the party were outrightly rejected by the people. It appears that Congress leaders in J&K are hoping that party is on way of getting revived. But time only will prove whether Congress would get revived or it will become a history.
