Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 30: Five former MLAs were on Monday released after remaining under detention for about five months in Kashmir valley, official sources said. The released MLAs were among the dozens of politicians, including three former CMs, ex-ministers and legislators over detained by the government on August 5, when the centre scrapped Article 370 and 35A, decides divided the state into two UTs. However, dozens of former ministers and legislators still remain under detention and MLA hostel in Srinagar. Official sources said that five former national conference (NC) & people's democratic party (PDP) MLAs, including Sheikh Abdul Jabar and Mushtaq Mir were released on Monday evening from MLA hostel. The move assumes significance as it is seen as a sign from centre to initiate mainstream political activities in the valley, where the first batch of 7,000 security force personnel have been withdrawn. About 800 companies of security force personnel were rushed to the valley a week before the special status of J&K was withdrawn. Meanwhile, three former CMs, Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti remained under detention since August this year. Several other leaders were earlier released after they gave assurance that they will not indulge in political activities which could disturb peace in the valley. |
