Juniors promoted at the cost of seniors at University of Kashmir
‘Blue-eyed’ boys continue to make merry

SRINAGAR, Dec 30: The practice of promotion of juniors at the cost of seniors has become a norm at the University of Kashmir and there is nobody who would take note of the matter and take the remedial measures.

Sources told Early Times that a junior faculty member of the university was recently appointed as the Coordinator of Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examinations. The position was recently held by one of the senior professors of the varsity with the incumbent being an Assistant Professor having very little experience.
“The university administration recently appointed Dr. Yahya Bakhtiyar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology as Coordinator, Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examinations. Dr. Yahya is one of the junior most faculty members of the university and has experience of just five years at the varsity,” said sources.
Sources said that the post ought to be held by a senior professor of the university who has an experience of 10 years or more. They said the people at helm at the university continue to shower benefits on their blue-eyed candidates with the latest example being that of Coordinator, Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examinations.
“The position was held by Professor Irshad Ahmad Nawchoo in the past and he should have been replaced by a senior professor of the university, but that was not to be. The appointment of Dr. Yahya on the position is a violation of the laid down norms and it should be cancelled without any delay,” said sources.
Sources said that few weeks back the university administration showered benefits on yet another ‘blue-eyed’ boy by placing him on yet another important position at the varsity. They said that Dr. Altaf Bhat was appointed as Coordinator of inter-disciplinary research centre at the varsity despite the fact that he is not having relevant experience.

“Dr. Altaf has also been made as Coordinator of SPARC, STRIDE, PURSE and FIST. The benefits have been showered on him like anything and he is enjoying privileges like a king. Over the years the university administration has been promoting the juniors while the seniors are relegated to the back stage,” said sources.

Sources said that the teaching as well as non-teaching faculty of the university have been expressing concern over the demotion of seniors and have given vent to their feelings many a times in the past but of no avail. These officials have urged Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to intervene in the matter and ensure that justice is done.
