Training course on mediation concludes

JAMMU, Dec 30: The 3-day Basic Training Course on Mediation concluded today with the valedictory address of Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority, in the presence of Justice Tashi Rabistan, Chairman Mediation & Conciliation Committee, High Court of J&K.
Justice Rajesh Bindal, in his address traced the mythological genesis of mediation in India. He enlightened the participants about the concept of mediation by referring to Ramayana & Mahabharata, where Angad & Lord Krishna respectively played the role of Mediator. Further, Justice Bindal underlined the need of dispute resolution through ADR. “ADR is not only Alternative Dispute Resolution but Appropriate mode of Dispute Resolution,” he maintained.
Inaugurated by Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court, on December 28, 2019, ten sessions were conducted during the three day extensive Basic Training Course.
Earlier, in the inaugural address, Justice Gita Mittal underscored the significance of mediation in justice delivery system and exhorted legal practitioners to work towards making mediation as a movement in J&K. The Day 1 started with the inaugural session followed by technical sessions on various aspects of mediation, including conflict in the context of mediation, overview of Dispute Resolution Processes, negotiation as mother of mediation and bargaining.
On the second day, training was imparted on various aspects including interest based bargaining, communication in mediation, understanding the philosophy of mediation and mediation process. The Resource persons adopted innovative way of involving the trainees in Role-Play activities.
Mr. Justice Tashi Rabistan chaired the Pre-Lunch sessions, while the post-lunch sessions were chaired by Justice Sindhu Sharma.
The 3rd and concluding day commenced with the concept of revisiting process of mediation and settlement writing. The Role Play on Mediation by the participants was highlight of the day.
While concluding the training programme, resource persons from Delhi J.P. Sengh, Senior Advocate, Veena Ralli Advocate and Mitali Gupta, Advocate, appreciated the zeal and enthusiasm shown by the participants and hoped that the mediation would emerge as a strong tool in combating the pendency arrears.
Bala Jyoti Registrar (Rules) and Coordinator Mediation & Conciliation Centre, Jammu, delivered the welcome address at the valedictory function and M.K. Sharma, Member Secretary J&K State Legal Services Authority gave the Vote of thanks.
