BJP eyes Srinagar seats for Assembly
12/31/2019 11:02:07 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Even as Srinagar is seen as "bastion" of the regional parties like National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party for the Assembly elections, the right wing Bharatiya Janta Party is now eyeing to get its share from the summer capital of Srinagar in the coming elections likely to be held in 2020.
Sources said the BJP, which already has its councilors in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, has started looking for some faces, which can bag seats in the Assembly elections.
Sources said apart from grooming some of the leaders already associated with the BJP, the party looks ahead to rope in more faces, who are "already known in the social and political circles."
It was reliably learnt that senior BJP leader Avinash Rai Khanna and Ram Madhav during their recent visits to Kashmir have conveyed it to their cadres that the BJP eyes opening its account in the city, which is largely seen as the "stronghold" of the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party.
Sources said the party has been holding several meetings on this front at its head office at Jawahar Nagar.
Sources said at the moment, the party looks ahead for faces from Hazratbal, Habba Kadal and Batamaloo constituencies apart from Sonawar and Zadibal.
Sources said the party looks ahead to field strong candidates from these constituencies adding that "head hunt from other parties cannot be ruled out."
"Many of the leaders from other parties are already trying to maintain cordial relations with us. This is other words means that such faces look ahead to be part of our party. But we won't make any offer from our side, let them themselves volunteer to join the party that is working for national interests," said a BJP leader on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted a senior BJP leader said, "Not only Srinagar, we look ahead to win each and every seat in this region because the people of Kashmir have finally realized the power and commitment of our party."
