Fighting for vehicles, bungalows, BJP leaders forget AIIMS project
12/31/2019 11:02:16 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 31: One more year has been passed but setting of AIIMS at Jammu is still a distant dream because local BJP leaders are more worried about their vehicles and palatial bungalows.
None of the BJP leader has spoken even a single word to start construction of AIIMS because their first priority is to accommodate more luxuries for them. Like many other projects, AIIMS has also missed repeated deadlines and peoples' representatives were fighting for jammers and bungalows.
Reports said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced AIIMS for Jammu in November 2105 but civil work of this ambitious project is yet to start.
The J&K Government has identified 1,954 kanals of land for Rs 1,661-crore AIIMS project in the Vijaypur area of Samba district which is to be developed under the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP). So far, the Union Government has released Rs 48.33 crore for the AIIMS Jammu.
However, the Prime Minister had laid foundation stone for the project on February 3 the year 2019 and the upcoming AIIMS would be a 700-bedded hospital.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD), executing agency for the AIIMS project in Jammu, has not been able to start tendering process for civil works and it has assured that the process would be initiated soon.
So far, only 50 per cent work on double lane approach road to the AIIMS has been completed while work on the remaining portion is still in progress.
It was only after two months long struggle of the people of Jammu that AIIMS was announced for this region. During peoples' struggle BJP leadership had played dubious role.
