Jammu, Dec 31: Budding Under 16 players of Gen Baaz Singh Cricket Club, Badhori defeated Jammu Cricket Club 11 and won the opening match of "Say No To Drugs, Join Hands In Nation Building" tournament that went underway at Sports Stadium, Badhori, 7 kms from Bari Brahmana.
Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal who was the chief guest on the occasion inaugurated the tournament while international cricketer, Surinder Singh Bagal was the guest of honour on the occasion.
A limited 25 over match was played between Gen Baaz Singh 11 and Jammu Cricket Club 11. After winning the toss, Gen Baaz Singh11 opted to bat first and performed a superb inning while earning 192 runs. Budding, under 16 players Vishu and Aditya played fine innings and registered 36 runs each in their kitty. While Sushant also played well and made a knock of 25 runs.
From Jammu Cricket Club 11, Laith August Sharma remained most successful fast bowler and hauled for two quick wickets in three overs. However, the other bowlers could not stop Gen Baaj Singh 11 batsmen much who marked number of boundaries and couple of sixes while taking the target to 192.
Chasing a big target, Jammu Cricket Club 11, batting line too started their innings on wonderful note hitting the bowl to boundaries and steering quick doubles. Karmanya's 44 and Dhruv's 31 raised a hope of win but they could not make a long partnership. Even Laith August Sharma's performed well and made 24 runs before he got run out, finally the team ending up at 177 runs. Paras hauled form 3 wickets and Rahul clinched 2 wickets.
While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, lavished all praise for the organizers including Advocate, Ranjit Singh, Jamwal, Rakesh Gupta, Jagdip Singh Jamwal, Jagjeet Singh and Shammi for conducting the tournament with professional standards. He said that Cricket is a game of uncertainty. Through this game, the ability to struggle increases and opportunities get associated with each other's feelings. And with such an event, the budding players especially of the rural areas get a golden opportunity to refine their hidden talent. He also urged the players as well as local gathering to become part of the campaign "Say No To Drugs, Join Hands in Nation Building" so that future generation could be saved from drug menace.
On the occasion, ace cricketer Surinder Singh Bagal along with other dignitaries also donated a cricket kit on this occasion to Gen Baaz Singh, Badhori Cricket Club.
