Terrorism our long time threat, we will respond when required, says Army Chief General MM Naravane
1/1/2020 8:05:39 PM
New Delhi: Army Chief General MM Naravane, on Wednesday, said that the Army has a well-established mechanism in place to deal with the threat of terrorism and underlined that the man behind the machine and doctrines that enhance the war-fighting capability of the Army, will remain the priorities of his office.

"The priority is to be combat-ready," Naravane said in an exclusive interview to Times Now, adding that the man and the machine and the infrastructure and the capacities required to sustain the war-machine and the training and doctrines will remain a priority during his tenure as the Chief of Army Staff.

"Terrorism is a threat we have been facing for a long time. We have a robust system in place, and whenever required, we will respond," he further said. "We are no strangers to terrorism, we have developed a robust system to deal with it," he further said.

Naravane took over as the COAS after his predecessor General Bipin Rawat was elevated to the post of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on Monday. Naravane, the 28th COAS, was serving as Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) prior to assuming the office of COAS.

On Tuesday, Naravane said that Pakistan was using terrorism as a state tool and had reiterated that the Army had well-established mechanisms to deal with terrorism emanating from that country. He had also stated that the number of terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir had come down after the abrogation of Article 370.
