Kotwal reviews eviction of encroachment on State, Kahcharai land

JAMMU, Feb 11: Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Dr Pawan Kotwal, today reviewed the status of progress on Eviction and Encroachment of State and Kahcharai Land in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma; Additional Commissioner, Revenue, Nazir Ahmad Baba; Regional Director Survey & Land Records, Jammu, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad; Commissioner Survey & Land Records, Shahnawaz Bukhari; Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Sushma Chauhan; Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Jammu, Avni Lavasa; Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Rohit Khajuria; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Tahir Firdous; besides senior officers of the concerned departments attended the meeting.
Deputy Commissioners of all districts from Jammu and Kashmir attended the meeting through video conferencing.
Dr Kotwal reiterated upon the concerned officers to carry out eviction of encroachment relating to State and Kahcharai land. He said that under Section 133 of Land Revenue Act, the land which has been reserved for the common purpose and has been encroached, a revenue officer on the application of any other co sharer will reject the encroaching co sharer from the land and by order forbid the encroachment.
He further gave instructions that under Land Revenue Act, Samvat,1996 and Common Lands Act, 1956, Deputy Commissioners and Tehsildars are empowered to evict the illegal occupants from the State land, Kahcharai land and on common lands by adopting due course of law.
In the meeting, he assessed the scale and nature of land encroached in J&K. He asked the DCs to set targets for each Tehsildar regarding eviction of illegal occupants and the prevention of such encroachments on common land, non partible shamlat land, kahcharai land and land meant for pathways, ponds, cremation grounds and other common use. He said that after identification of these illegal encroachments on lands mentioned, the concerned officers should start eviction of such lands.
Speaking on the total land evicted and encroached, he emphasized upon the concerned officers to expunge the wrong entries after physical verification. He further asked the concerned that make general masses aware that any such encroachment on common lands is in contravention to law. He further instructed the concerned officers to vacate the remaining encroachment of State & Kahcharai land at the earliest.
