Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 11: Giving damn to Right to Information (RTI) Act Rural Development Department (RDD) Rajouri has failed to provide required reply to the information seeker in sheer violation of RTI Act.
Sources told Early Times that few RTI Activists of Rajouri district had sought information from RDD regarding implementation of various schemes like Swatch Bharat Abhiyan (SBM) etc. in the district, but despite lapse of two months they didn’t’ get desired reply and very inadequate reply was received by them.
Irate over the lackadaisical attitude of the RDD, these RTI Activists today held a press conference and accused the department of hiding facts by denying information under RTI Act. They alleged that there was little implementation of various centre sponsored schemes in the district, which clearly indicates embezzlement of funds by the department.
They further said that they had sought information about total number of Model Villages developed in various blocks of Rajouri district and the information about fund received and expenditure incurred on them since 2017 and till date.
“We received reply from 5 blocks including Siot, Lamberi, Sunderbani, Seri and Dangri out 19 blocks of Rajouri. Shockingly, the reply received from BDO Dangari was very ambiguous as the reply was provided in hand written and that too without sign and stamp of the concerned BDO,” they alleged.
They further said that they had also sought information about total funds received by the department for construction of toilets to make district Open Defecation Free under SBM and name of the villages where these toilets were constructed and also demanded information about the fund utilized under these scheme.
They alleged that administration claim that district has been declared Open Defecation Free but fact is that there are still many villages, where toilet facilities has not been provided to the people.
“We had also asked for information about total number of Special Urinal Points constructed villages wise under SBM but till date no reply has been given by the department,” they said further adding that there is embezzlement of funds has been made by the department. Not only RDD, there are many other departments in the district, which don’t provide information under RTI Act.
When contacted ACD Rajouri Sushil Khajuria admitted that in many cases there has been a delay in providing the reply. He said that under RTI Act, when information seeker doesn’t get reply within time or incomplete reply, he/ she can apply to First Appellate Authority for the redressal of the issue.
