7 tips to start your day with a positive mind
2/15/2020 11:33:24 PM

Gagan Sidhu

The moment you open your eyes, whatever you think and do will make an impact for the rest of the day. A positive mind in the morning will eventually open a window to opportunities and happiness in life. However, it’s not easy to start every single day with happiness and excitement, but there’s always a way and you are the one who can make it happen.
Below are some powerful morning habits that will help you create the best out of the day.
1. Stop checking your phone
If it is only to keep updated on your Facebook, Instagram or any other social media feed and end up wasting your time on its never ending explore section, stop. I don’t know what they deliver to your feed but mine was filled with random people practice pointless trends and Insta-celebs or pretentious celebs with luxurious life. Without you even knowing, you train your mind to compare your life to others and it’s never positive to start your day with. The truth is that most of them are working for more views, comments and likes cause they earn money or some likes off of it while we waste our time as their asset.
2. Go for a walk or workout 20-30 min
According to Portuguese study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, walking 30 minutes a day five times a week for twelve weeks is proved to be successful to lift up mood and cure depressed adults that medication alone could not help. You are free to skip a day or two on first week and let your body adapt to it if you plan to wake up earlier and go for a morning walk. But after then, your persistence will play a major role.
Also, If you start exercising, your brain recognizes this as a moment of stress. As your heart pressure increases, the brain thinks you are either fighting the enemy or fleeing from it. To protect yourself and your brain from stress, you release a protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). This BDNF has a protective and also reparative element to your memory neurons and acts as a reset switch. That’s why we often feel so at ease and things are clear after exercising and eventually happy.
3. Focus on your goal
You’ve got to have one to keep moving forward in life. It can be very powerful that causes sleeplessness at night and woke you up before your alarm goes off. Naturally it improves your mood, confidence, and daily performance which is very positive for your career and life. The most important of it all is to set your goals for which we would share a separate article soon.
4. Never skip your breakfast
Skipping breakfast may result in weight loss but also causing excessive hunger that makes you want to eat an elephant for lunch. You can always avoid the headache by having a healthy breakfast. With your hunger no longer in your mind, you can put all your focus on your tasks and exclude any interference.
5. A cup of coffee/ tea
Not necessary but a cup daily with a maximum of 8g of natural sweeteners will help you lift up your mood and concentrate on whatever you are working on. Even better, it lower the risk of stroke, heart attack and it comes with antioxidant to lower the risk of liver cancer. Try to stick with a cup as you might be dependent to it. It’s not like power ups in the movies or an excuse to stay up late.
6. Wake up early
It always feels good to wake up and enjoy the quiet time in early morning, especially together with your breakfast, coffee, or both. Waking up early also eliminate the need to rush through your routine. Both will add an incredible amount of positivity for the rest of the day. However, it also means to sleep and waking up at the same time everyday including weekends. An extra few hours of sleep won’t make much difference especially when it’s out of your regular sleep cycle.
7. Eliminate negative thoughts
Last and the most important one is to train yourself not to overthink. Most of the time, the problem is far smaller than what’s on your mind. You can always take a moment to breathe, adjust the flow of your thought and remind yourself that you are the one and only who has maximum control over it.
You have the power to choose Positive or Negative, I would prefer even in my dreams to always choose a tiny positive thought.
