Donald Trump visit to India will strengthen India-US friendship

US President Donald Trump is all about to set his visit India between February 21 and February 24, with a day devoted to a joint public function with our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, possibly in Ahmedabad. The visit comes at a time when Pakistan is intensifying its efforts to attack India at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva from February 24 to March 30.
During his first official US President Donald and his wife Melania Trump will travel to Ahmedabad, Gujarat apart from New Delhi. "President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will visit Ahmedabad, which is in Prime Minister Modi's home state of Gujarat and played such an important role in Mahatma Gandhi's life and leadership of the Indian independence movement. Now, Ahmedabad, is in a rush to get ready for the visit that has been awaited since 2017, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi first extended an invite. Trump will begin his trip from Ahmedabad where a major public event awaits him - 'KemCho Modi' - followed by bilateral talks in New Delhi. The event will be on the lines of 'Howdy Modi' to be organised in Gujarat.
The mega event will be addressed by President Trump and the First Lady Melania Trump. The event 'Kemcho Trump' is likely to be similar to the 'Howdy Modi' event that was held in Texas last year.
The 'Kemcho Trump' event will be organised in Ahmedabad's newly contructed Sardar Patel Stadium. US President Donald Trump & our PM Narendra Modi, would inaugurate the world’s largest cricket stadium taking shape in Ahmedabad. It will the world’s largest cricket stadium with seating capacity for 1.10 lakh spectators as against Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia, of 95,000. So far, India’s biggest stadium was Eden Gardens in Kolkata with a capacity of 62,000 seats. The Motera stadium boasts of having India’s biggest parking area of 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers. A 10-km long roadshow has also been planned from Ahmedabad airport to Sabarmati Ashram.
In its statement announcing the visit, the White House noted that Ahmedabad was in Modi’s “home state of Gujarat” and “played such an important role in Mahatma Gandhi’s life and leadership of the Indian Independence movement”. According to Harsh Pant, Director, Observer Research Foundation, Trump is very much impressed by PM Modi's ability to deliver him certain voters that are not his traditional voters.
He is not someone who would come unless there is an imperative here which he can use back home and it is the political imperative which compels him to come to India" PM Modi has rightly tweeted that "India and USA share a common commitment to democracy and pluralism. Our nations are cooperating extensively on a wide range of issues. Robust friendship between our nations augurs well not only for our citizens but also for the entire world."
Ahmedabad is also chosen as the location keeping in mind the US Elections 2020. There is a sizable population of Gujarati voters in the United States and Trump would hope to get their votes by this rally in Ahmedabad. It is to be appreciated that since Modi took over as PM, several heads of state have visited Ahmedabad as part of their India tour, including Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2014, Japan PM Shinzo Abe in 2017, and Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018. It is also expected that Trump and Modi are to sign a short-term trade deal that could give American companies greater access to Indian markets and restore India's trade benefits withdrawn last summer. They will also discuss a long-term trade agreement that may include a free trade agreement.
India and USA share a common commitment to democracy and pluralism and there is no doubt that Donald Trump's visit to India will strengthen India-US friendship.
