Will Jammu’s jobless youth find place in GOI’s new recruitment process?
Govt to fill 4 lakh 75 thousand vacant posts soon

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 13: As Government of India (GoI) is in the process of filling 4 lakh 75 thousand vacant posts soon, the gearing question remains that whether the lakhs of jobless Jammu youth would find the place in the process.
As per the reports, during the year 2019-20, three recruiting agencies namely, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC) & Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have made recommendations for recruitment to the following posts. UPSC 4,399 ; SSC 13,995; RRB 1,16,391; thus a total of 1,34,785. In addition to this, Department of Posts and Ministry of Defence have commenced the process for filling up of additional 3,41,907 vacant posts.
As per the government data, out of the 22 districts of Jammu and Kashmir state, Jammu district has the highest number of jobless youth as out of 88 thousand unemployed people, more than 11 thousand are from Jammu district alone. Similarly, when two divisions of Jammu and Kashmir are compared, Jammu division has 45821 jobless people while as the number in Kashmir division is 42219.
The details have once again proved how the claims of Jammu’s betterment have fallen flat and those who beat the trumpet of representing Jammu ’s aspirations have miserably failed to make any mark. The documents in possession of the Early Times newspaper have also pricked the ballon of equitable growth and development as against Srinagar’s 5985 jobless youth, the number is double in Jammu district- 11072. Pertinently, prior to 2014 polls, the political groups in Jammu in union promised massive employment in the region if voted to power. Now, when five years have completed and latest details of unemployment have come to fore, there is ample proof that the previous regime has failed to address the menace with people at the receiving end and Jammu continues to become victim discrimination. “The figures have revealed that not much has changed in the past regime and the unemployment is drastically going up. These facts are mocking at the helmsmen who have to now answer to people of Jammu about why they failed so miserably in the past five years,” says an official.
Now with the creation of Union Territory, the government must walk the talk and address the issue of joblessness without any delay accord a dignified life to the people who have been craving for it and who deserve it.
Meanwhile, Early Times had last year reported that there no less than 11,807 doctors, engineers and post- graduates from Jammu region without a job while as the number of jobless youth with similar degrees is much less in Srinagar. The figures at that time too had bellied the claims of equitable development and equal opportunities to the youth of the state.
Data had revealed that , there are 60 doctors with MBBS degrees jobless in Jammu while the number of unemployed engineers is 466. There are more than 100 diploma holders jobless in Jammu while the number of post graduates who were denied the employment opportunities is 610. Furthermore, at present, there are 1642 graduates in Jammu region without any job while as those in category of ‘others’ are 7916 in number.
