VIP culture continues, Bangladesh return students walk off without screening
Covid-19 Outbreak

EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Mar 20: There seems to be no end to VIP culture in Kashmir as despite Coronavirus outbreak reportedly two students who have travelled from Bangladesh to Srinagar walked off from the airport without being screened. However, the officials deny any such incident.
As per the reports available, more than 250 passengers had travelled from across the country to Srinagar on Thursday, which included 30 MBBS students from Bangladesh. Students have come to Srinagar via Kolkota.
Sources said those students who have arrived at the Airport had staged protest suggesting that students should be allowed to quarantine at home, while as the Jammu and Kashmir administration had ordered that every individual who have travelled from abroad will be quarantined.
However, in the mean time, reports suggest that two female MBBS students were shown some sign allegedly by the administration. The officials took them out of the airport. As per the sources, both the girls are the daughters of some government officials.
All this happened when students and their parents protested at airport demanding home quarantine and non availability of foods and toilet facility.
Though, the students had reached Kolkota two days ago and were screened properly at the airport there. While at the Delhi Airport, all the students were screened, before they were allowed, to board towards Srinagar.
“This is the VIP culture which has been the part and parcel of Kashmiri culture from the beginning. It was too hard to see two students walking off from the airport, while others were busy in confusion that availed at the airport”, alleged an eye witness.
Later the students were shifted to Hajj House Bemiana, where quarantine centre has been established by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. Meanwhile a senior official denied the charge, he said that there is no truth in such reports and there are tight precautions at the Srinagar Airport for screening of travelers.
Later police issued a statement and it said, “A few students arrived from Bangladesh at Srinagar Airport. They were to be quarantined as precautionary measures but they protested, broke windows of Srinagar Airport. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and students were later sent for quarantine”.
