Encashing crisis
4/17/2020 12:02:33 AM

Soon after the government announced nationwide lockdown, philanthropists appeared at different places and started helping the needy.
Most of them tried to do so with a good intention. But a few people tried to encash the pandemic to derive political mileage out of it. These people started visiting different areas and got their pictures clicked and videos recorded while providing different items to the people. And later got these pictures and videos uploaded on the social media. Besides they ensured that regular media houses cover their activities.
These publicity hungry people defeated the very purpose of helping the needy during crisis. Taking a strong note of their activities the Jammu and Kashmir administration imposed a ban on uploading the pictures and videos about any relief activity being carried out by anyone.
The outbreak of COVID-19 across the country and subsequent lockdown has brought everything to a standstill. Maximum population in our country survives on day to day basis. But for the last more than 21-days nothing has been moving and the daily wagers have been the worst hit. This is the time they need the help to survive. They cannot be left to fend on their own. The government is playing its role but it’s representatives cannot reach everywhere. Now it’s the duty of the people, who can afford, to come forward and lend them a helping hand. This must be done without any pomp and show. We must respect the dignity of all those who are receiving the help. They are no beggars. Its due to the lockdown they have been caught in a difficult situation and are unable to eke out a living. Once situation turns normal, they will be once again back on their jobs. They need our support till things start moving. Let’s not publicize what we are doing to help the needy.
A few leaders a members of some NGOs, who have left no chance to get their photos clicked or videos recorded while distributing food items during the past few weeks, need to be cautious as this cheap publicity can put them in trouble now as government has decided to act stern action against the publicity hungry people.
These are testing times and we have to overcome this crisis by supporting each other. Encashing crisis for personal gains is a shameful act. Every religion preaches charity. No religion preaches pomp and show during a pandemic or a calamity. Let’s set our basics right and move on.
