| Now NC wants release of all Kashmiris detained since Aug 5 | | Leaders demand release of Geelani, Mirwaiz, other separatists | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 16: Even as the Abdullahs want to prefer silence, some other National Conference leaders are seeking release of detained leaders including separatists like Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz UmarFarooq.
In the last few days, since NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar were released from prison, some of the NC leaders have been demanding release of all those detained since August 5, 2019, including the separatists.
Sources said some of the leaders of the party have been asked to make social posts demanding release of all the politicians.
One the NC leaders said on the social media “Release all KASHMIRIS languishing in jails post August 5. Release them all.”
Another NC leader even said the senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani should be released given his old age. “Geelani Sahab buzurg hain, unko band rakhke Kya haasil hoga? Show good-will gesture. Release him,” the NC leader said on social media.
Similar appeals are also being made for other leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Sources said the NC is confident to talk about such things since the day their two senior most leaders were released from prison. After the release of Dr Farooq Abdullah whose PSA was quashed, subsequently Omar Abdullah was also released.
Till then, the NC leaders were not using their social media accounts.
“It was only after the release of these two leaders that NC has become vocal and even active on the social media and also resumed their social media cell,” said an insider.
When contacted a NC leader said no directives have been given to the party leadership and that everyone was free to comment. “We live in a democracy and our party believes in that. Moreover none of our leaders is making any comment that is against the constitution,” said NC leader said asking not to be identified. |
