Jammu, Apr 17: State President, Sainik Samaj Party, J&K Col. Pathania urged the union government to resolve the problems of migrant workers with empathy and compassion, constituting appropriate measures in a deliberate and phased manner.
Recent happenings of protest at Surat, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai etc are indicative of the plight of workers and their families. There are more than 40 lakh migrant workers who are earning their livelihoods in big cities and industrial areas. Most of them stay in either slum areas or on room sharing basis and may be in a small room 6 to 8 people are staying with community toilets. Maintaining the social distance is virtually impossible which may lead to a sudden explosion in Corona virus.
Fear of uncertainty and no income is also affecting their emotional and mental state. Pathania said that in a phased manner, all those migrants, willing to go back to their homes, in consultation with state governments, following medical protocols of testing for virus, Corona negative cases should be given transportation facilities to their homes.
