EARLY TIMES REPORT

SAMBA, Apr 17: With the extension of lockdown by the centre government in order to fight against COVID-19, the farmers of Samba district have started expressing their concern for harvesting of their standing wheat crops as there is no availability of labourers and combine machines in the district.
Sources told Early Times that they have been demanding to allow combine machine operators from neighbouring state Punjab so that farmers can harvest their standing wheat crop.
“Due to lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 in country farmers have been suffering a lot as due to strict guidelines of maintaining social distancing as precautionary measures, we are not getting labourers are any other alternative. It is very important that harvesting of wheat crops should be done immediately so that cultivation of next crop could be started,” said farmers.
They further said that issue has been taken up with administration but nothing has been done till date to mitigate their problems. “It is the right time, when the administration should come clear to help the farmers. A large number of residents in the district are totally dependent on agriculture income but with the lapse of time, the standing crops can face damage and we may incur huge losses,” they said.
