Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 17: The Padder Police in Kishtwar District on Friday registered an FIR against NGO Abebeel for distributing ration among the poor families in Galhar and Kerru areas.
Following the intervention of Court, the ambulance that carried the ration kits for poor was released.
As per the details available with Early Times, Padder Police on Thursday halted the distribution of ration being made by the NGO volunteers and shifted them to police station Padder where they were allegedly harassed, threatened and hounded by the police before they were booked in case FIR No. 11/2020 at police station Padder.
Speaking to Early Times ABABEEL volunteers Burhan Mir and Umar Farooq said that police didn’t listen to them. They said that they were forced to halt the distribution of ration among 50 needy families.
They said that DC Kishtwar was gracious enough to applaud their contribution towards public and social welfare. They added that DC Kishtwar encouraged them to carry out relief work in any part of the district.
They said that they will legally fight the FIR registered against them by the SHO Padder.
They said that several NGOs are busy in relief distribution in Kishtwar District, but they were are the only ones who were targeted.
They urged the government to initiate the action against the guilty officials for their biased approach.
Speaking to Early Times, council for NGO Advocate Shahik Saroori said that following Court order the seized vehicle was released.
He added that FIR registered by the Padder police is unwarranted. He said that once the lockdown period is over and offices will start functioning normally, they will explore all the legal options including filing of a case against the officials who illegally detained NGO volunteers and booked and threatened them.
