Don't reopen closed chapters

National Conference leaders are trying to change the narrative once again by seeking the release of separatists, including Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hurriyat dove, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and others who were detained on and after August 5, 2019, when Centre announced its decision to reorganize the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The NC leaders, who had gone into hibernation for nearly eight months, have activated their social media accounts again. To begin with they have raised the issue of detention of separatists.
It looks like an attempt to once again take the discourse back to where it was closed in August last year. These leaders should bear in mind that if they try to reverse the clock they can end up in big trouble. So, they should refrain from inventing any such narrative which can once again push things back to square one. On August 5, 2019, many chapters have been closed and these should not be reopened. Anyone who tries to do so can end up in a soup.
The NC leaders should realize that their party after J&K's reorganization has become irrelevant, and it cannot become relevant again by talking about separatists and separatism. This chapter stands closed forever and anyone who tries to advocate the cause of Pakistan and separatists will have to face the law of the land.
The NC leaders instead of seeking release of the so-called separatist leaders should focus on the issues which touch the skin of a common man and need to be resolved. If they are really interested in making a comeback they should reach out to a common man and become his voice. Becoming the voice of people like Geelani and others won't help their cause. It seems they need to be reminded that when their top leaders were detained on August 5 last year not a single protest was held in Kashmir to seek their release. So, they should gauge the situation and mood of the people rather than acting like immature politicians.
Only way through which NC can get revived is by telling the truth to people. Their false narratives, slogans and roadmaps like autonomy don't exist anymore. It has become very much clear to the people that these slogans were nothing but a betrayal and an eyewash. These leaders should bear in mind that they cannot achieve anything by flogging dead horses and their attempt to build a separatist narrative won't work as the times have changed.
