SRINAGAR, May 7: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached nine as a man in his thirties died at the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital here on Wednesday night.
In the meantime, 18 positive cases of COVID-19 were reported today. With the fresh cases the number of positive cases in the union territory reached 793 today. As on date there are 449 active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir.
Reports said that 32 years old Asif Ali Joo, resident of Kralpora-Hawal, Srinagar died at the SMHS hospital after he was told that he is COVID-19 positive. Asif was attending to his father who is admitted at the Super Specialty Hospital here. He had a running nose following which he was admitted at SMHS hospital.
At the SMHS hospital his COVID-19 test was carried out and the same turned out to be positive. As Asif was informed that he is a Corona Virus patient he could not bear the shock and died instantly. A pall of gloom descended on the Joo family after they came to know that their dear one has died due to Corona Virus.
Asif is the ninth person from Jammu & Kashmir to have died due to Corona Virus. While three patients each have died in the Srinagar and Baramulla districts of the Kashmir valley one person each has died in Bandipora, Anantnag and Udhampur districts of the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the number of positive cases of Corona Virus reached 793 today with 18 fresh cases. While 15 cases came up from Kashmir valley three others were reported from Jammu division. The number of active cases are 449 as 335 patients have recovered while as nine of them have died.
From the Kashmir valley the fresh cases were reported from Shopian (four), Pulwama (three), Bandipora (two), Srinagar (two), Anantnag (one), Baramulla (one), Budgam (one) and Ganderbal (one). From the Jammu division two cases were reported from Jammu district and one case came up from Udhampur district.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 18 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), three from Jammu division and 15 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 793.
Out of 793 positive cases, 449 are active positive, 335 have recovered and nine have died. Moreover, 13 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir Division. The bulletin further said that out of 37,706 test results available, 36,913 samples have tested as negative till May 7, 2020.
Furthermore, till date 84,900 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 16,387 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 186 in hospital quarantine, 449 in hospital isolation and 8,121 under home surveillance. Besides, 59,748 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the bulletin said that Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 70 active positive, 63 recovered, one death; Srinagar has 126 positive cases with 47 active positive, 76 recovered, three deaths; Anantnag district has 122 positive cases with 120 active positive, one recovered, one death; Baramulla has 105 positive cases with 60 active positive, 42 recovered, three deaths.
“Shopian has 98 positive cases with 64 active positive, 34 recovered; Kupwara has 69 positive cases with 38 active positive, 31 recovered; Budgam has 31 positive cases with 19 active positive and 12 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 16 positive cases with two active cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 12 positive cases with seven active positive and five recoveries; Pulwama has 12 positive cases with eight active positive, four recovered,” the bulletin said.
Jammu has 31 positive cases with five active positive cases and 26 recoveries; Udhampur has 22 positive cases with two active positive case, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has seven positive cases with three active positive and four recoveries; Rajouri has four positive cases, one active positive and three have recovered; Kathua has one positive case who is active positive; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered while Ramban and Reasi districts have one active positive case each .
The Advisory has urged upon the public to maintain social distancing as it is the key to stop and prevent the spread of COVID-19 from those who are infected to those who are not infected. Besides, reduce physical contact with others, keep at least 2-meter distance between yourself and others, when you are out. The more space between you and others, the harder it is for virus to spread.
