Samba police arrest four drug smugglers, recover heroin, poppy straw

Samba, May 8: In a major success, Samba Police arrested four Punjab based drug smugglers, recovered 354 gms of Heroin (Chitta) & 13.700 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) in three different operations conducted during the last two days.
All the consignments are having market value between Rs. 18.00 lacs to 20.00 lacs. The consignments were being smuggled from Kashmir to Punjab by the drug smugglers in trucks used to carry essential commodities in this lockdown period.
On May 7 Samba Police on reliable information intercepted a truck bearing Regd No. PB13AW-0653 at Mansar Naka laid by PP Mansar which was on way from Kashmir towards Punjab. During checking of the vehicle, 254 gms of Heroin (Chitta) was recovered which was concealed in tool box in a professional manner to avoid being noticed during checking by the Police. The accused driver and conductor both having share in narcotics consignment were arrested and the truck was also seized. The accused persons both residents of Malerkotla, Sangrur (Punjab) have been identified as Nasar & Mohammad Saleem.
On May 6 Samba Police on reliable information intercepted a truck bearing regd. No. PB13AR-6054 which was on way from Kashmir towards Punjab at Mansar Naka laid by PP Mansar. On checking of the vehicle, 100 gms of Heroin (Chitta) was recovered which was rolled inside the jute rope. The accused person namely Jameel Ahmed R/O Malerkotla, Sangrur Punjab has been arrested on the spot and contraband item along with truck was also seized.
Acting on reliable information a gas tanker bearing Regd. No. DL1GC-1857 which was on its way from Kashmir towards Punjab was intercepted at Mansar Naka laid by PP Mansar. During checking of the gas tanker, a total of 13.700 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) which was concealed in a spare tyre was recovered. The accused driver namely Surjit Singh R/O Dharamkot, Moga (Punjab) has been arrested on the spot and the contraband item along with vehicle were seized.
