SRINAGAR, May 8: The number of positive cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir reached 823 today after 30 more persons tested positive for COVID-19. The cases were reported from different districts of Kashmir valley.
Reports said that 50 percent of cases have been reported from the Central Kashmir’s Budgam district with the others being reported from Kulgam, Srinagar, Ganderbal and Baramulla districts. With today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in the union territory is 823.
While Budgam district accounted for 15 cases, Kulgam district accounted for eight cases of Corona Virus, Srinagar three cases, Ganderbal three cases and Baramulla one case. As 364 COVID-19 patients have recovered and nine others have died the number of active cases in the union territory are 450.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 30 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), all from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 823. Out of 823 positive cases, 450 are active positive, 364 have recovered and nine have died.
Moreover, 29 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, one from Jammu division and 28 from Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 42,427 test results available, 41,604 samples have tested as negative till May 8, 2020.
Furthermore, till date 88,067 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 18,477 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 186 in hospital quarantine, 450 in hospital isolation and 8,724 under home surveillance. Besides, 60,221 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 58 active positive, 75 recovered, one death; Srinagar has 129 positive cases with 50 active positive, 76 recovered, three deaths; Anantnag district has 122 positive cases with 120 active positive, one recovered, one death and Baramulla has 106 positive cases with 61 active positive, 42 recovered, three deaths;
“Shopian has 98 positive cases with 51 active positive, 47 recovered; Kupwara has 69 positive cases with 36 active positive, 33 recovered; Budgam has 46 positive cases with 33 active positive and 13 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 19 positive cases with five active case and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 20 positive cases with 15 active positive and five recoveries and Pulwama has 12 positive cases with eight active positive, four recovered,” said the bulletin.
Similarly, Jammu has 31 positive cases with five active positive cases and 26 recoveries; Udhampur has 22 positive cases with two active positive cases, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has seven positive cases with three active positive and four recoveries; Rajouri has four positive cases, one active positive and three have recovered; Kathua has one positive case which recovered today; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered while as Ramban and Reasi have one positive case each who are active positive.
The advisory through the media bulletin has urged upon the people not to discriminate or stigmatize any patient in the name of COVID-19. Do not stigmatize COVID-19 survivors as stigma affects the emotional and mental health of those stigmatized; those recovered from COVID-19 do not pose any risk to the community as they have successfully been treated and discharged from the hospital.
The advisory further explains that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease, let us be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us. Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early.
