Flower growers face huge losses in wake of lockdown, demand compensation

SAMBA, May 8: The flower growers of Samba district have been facing huge losses in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown as their flower crops have totally failed due to complete shutdown making difficult to earn their livelihood. Channi Manhasan, which is famous for the cultivation of flowers crops, has been reported the most affected area in the district as maximum people in the village are associated with the flower business and took loan to the cultivate their flower corps every year.
“Due to lockdown, the our entire flower crops have failed and faced huge loss as a result we cannot even run our house and moreover we are not in position to return our loan,” said Ravinder Kumar, a flower grower. He further said that they can’t sell their flower as all religious places have been closed by the administration. “Our flower crop was totally ready when nationwide lockdown was declared,” he said. Although Government has asked the concerned Revenue Department and Floriculture Department to prepare loss assessment report but till date nothing has happened, he said further adding that he had approached to the Chairman Border Welfare Organization, Avinash Choudhary to take up the matter with higher authorities.
He appealed to the LG GC Murmu to issue directions to the concerned departments to take immediate action for providing compensation to them.
