CITU demands payment of full wages to workers of CTM
5/8/2020 11:58:46 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 8: The state committee of CITU denounces the action of management of M/s Chenab Textile Mills (CTM) Pvt Ltd Kathua to cut wages of their workers despite various advisories and directives issued by the Home Ministry and Labour Ministry, Government of India to require the workers to stay at home in view of lockdown order to contain pandemic COVID-19 as announced by various state and UT governments.
There are clear instructions that workers shall be treated as on duty during such period of absence and full wages shall be paid accordingly. The wages amounting to Rs 158 instead of Rs 340 per day is being paid to workers but they refused and are protesting for full payment of wages.
The workers are attending their duties after the government’s order permits the economic activities subject to providing all safety gears and keeping physical distancing as measures to contain spread of Pandemic. CITU urges upon the administration to direct the management of M/s CTM for compliance of government advisories to pay full wages to the protesting workers. The less wages to workers is led to a non-compliance of government’s advisory and Prime Minister’s repeated appeals.
Further, CITU expresses its concern over the plight of migrant workers working in Jammu & Kashmir belong to other states/UT who are the worst to suffer, thousands of migrant workers were thrown out of their jobs, were not paid wages, and even some evicted from their rented house.
CITU urges upon the administration for making effective arrangement for stranded migrant workers to travel Shramik Special Trains free of cost.
