Residents seek redressal of problems on priority

JAMMU, May 12: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, has slammed the administration for only making rants of development but not giving it a noticeable shape in several localities of greater Jammu which still can’t be categorized as fully urbanized.
“Making a visible difference in the life of a common man should be the top most priority of any government or administration. But unfortunately the manner in which several localities are getting neglected by the helmsmen is a cause of major concern for the citizens, who seek better amenities for them,” said Munish Gupta.
“The different sectors in Nanak Nagar, an area in the vicinity of posh Gandhi Nagar and Trikuta Nagar localities is another glaring example of continuous official apathy and neglect. Sector-13 of Nanak Nagar in particular is that part where development in real sense still eludes the inhabitants,” he added.
Munish Gupta, who would be contesting the upcoming Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency, said that Sector-13 of Nanak Nagar lacks basic amenities like proper sanitation, smooth lanes as well as by-lanes, and clear drains adding that the administration should make concerted efforts to improve the quality of infrastructure there.
Meanwhile, the residents of Nanak Nagar, Sector-13 while speaking to Early Times, said that they come across a number of problems on daily basis but the authorities hardly pay any attention towards their plight. “Despite being in close proximity to the posh Gandhi Nagar and Trikuta Nagar areas, our locality still craves for its overall development. Our locality looks like an area which is part of some rural pocket. We want redressal of all our problems on priority,” said the local residents.
A senior citizen said that the street lights in a large part of the area are non-functional for quite some time as no replacement has been made for the defunct lights.
“We took up the matter with the authorities concerned but no action has taken place till date. A mishap could take place without street lights, but who cares,” he said.
Insanitation and dilapidated lanes were the other two major problems mainly highlighted by almost all the inhabitants of Sector-13, Nanak Nagar. The residents in one voice demanded improvement of lanes and drains in their locality. All of them said that the main lanes as well as by-lanes are in pathetic condition as black topping has worn out with the passage of time while most of the drains are choked in the absence of a proper outlet of the waste water adding that the drains should be covered with either concrete slabs or iron mesh.
“Several inner as well as main roads need immediate restoration as they have worn out with the passage of time while the majority of drains which are overflowing due to blockage are required to be desilted without any further delay,” said the residents.
The residents of the locality are grappling with a large number of civic issues but there is no respite for them despite their concerted efforts to overcome them.
Most of the residents blamed the previously elected legislators for their plight as they seldom paid any attention to their miseries during their respective regimes while few of the locals alleged that they are being victimized for no fault of theirs.
