Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: The dictum ‘Rules for fools’ fits well for the influential teaching faculties of two prominent colleges of Jammu, where many professors have not been transferred for the past 5-8 years in sheer violation of transfer policy.
Sources told Early Times that many faculty members including Assistant and Associate Professors at Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar and GGM Science College, Jammu have not been transferred as they have strong connections with bureaucrats and political persons.
“Although, transfer of Associate and Assistant Professors has become a regular routine in Higher Education Department, but looking at the state of affairs in both these two high profile colleges of Jammu city, it seems that nobody wants to touch these blue eyed staff members,” they said.
They said that some bureaucrats have managed posting of their close relatives in these two colleges over the years. Even one of the faculty members, who is very close relative of a renowned bureaucrat posted in Jammu was given out of way benefit by surpassing all seniors and was given a top post in Cluster University. “Such influential staff members have become so powerful that top management in both the colleges wants to keep them in good books. This has led to monopoly of these Assistant and Associate Professors in every affair of both these colleges,” they alleged. “The enjoy the backing of powerful bureaucrats, both in civil and police administration. Few faculty members have made these colleges as their personal fiefdom as they know that nobody won’t touch them as their connections are there to protect them or to provide them another suitable posting within Jammu or nearby Jammu,” they informed.
“Presence of overstaying Associate and Assistant Professors in GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu is an ample proof of the fact that this college has become a favorite place for close relatives of bureaucrats (Civil and Police) and influential persons,” they added.
As per document available with ET, in GCW Gandhi Nagar, seven faculty members in Botany stream have completed more than five years of stay. Similarly, 12 faculty members in Chemistry, one in Economics, three in Education, seven in English, two in EVS, one in Food Science, one in Geography, two in Hindi, six in Home Science, four in Mathematics, one in Physics, one in Pol Science, one in Psychology, one in Punjabi, two in Sanskrit, one in Sociology, one in Statistics and six in Zoology stream have completed more than 5 to 8 years of stay.
Similarly, another college in Jammu city, GGM Science College too has a same story to tell. Five faculty members in English stream are overstaying. Similarly, 13 in Physics stream, 14 in Chemistry stream, 3 in Mathematics, 7 in Botany, 7 in Zoology, 2 in Geology, 2 in Electronics and 2 in BCA have completed more than five years of service.
