SRINAGAR, May 12: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir saw a spike in the Corona Virus cases as 55 more persons today tested positive for COVID-19. Tuesday (May 12) saw the highest number of cases of Corona Virus reported in Jammu & Kashmir.
Reports said that most of the persons who tested positive for COVID-19 today had returned from the different parts of country over the past few days. Kulgam district in Kashmir valley reported around 50 percent of the cases since 27 persons tested positive for Corona Virus.
Other than Kulgam while 10 cases were reported from Kupwara district Kathua reported seven cases, Samba four, Anantnag four cases, Reasi two cases and Shopian one case. With today’s cases the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir reached 934. The active cases are 469 since 455 patients have recovered and 10 others have died.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 55 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 13 from Jammu division and 42 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 934.
Out of 934 positive cases, 469 are active positive, 455 have recovered and 10 have died. Moreover, 28 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 53,726 test results available, 52,792 samples have tested as negative till date. Furthermore, till date 98,083 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 24,285 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 153 in hospital quarantine, 469 in hospital isolation and 10,830 under home surveillance. Besides, 62,336 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 136 positive cases with 51 active positive, 81 recovered, four deaths; Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 26 active positive, 107 recovered, one death; Anantnag district has 127 positive cases with 114 active positive, 12 recovered, one death and Baramulla has 109 positive cases with 49 active positive, 57 recovered, three deaths.
“Shopian has 104 positive cases with 44 active positive, 60 recovered; Kupwara has 83 positive cases with 38 active positive, 45 recovered; Budgam has 46 positive cases with 32 active positive and 14 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with nine active cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 69 positive cases with 63 active positive and six recoveries and Pulwama has reported 13 positive cases with nine active positive, four recovered,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 35 positive cases with nine active positive cases and 26 recoveries; Udhampur has 22 positive cases with two active positive case, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has 11 positive cases with seven active positive and four recoveries; Rajouri has four positive cases and all have recovered; Kathua has 13 positive cases with 12 active positive and one recovered; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered, Ramban has one active positive case and Reasi has three active positive cases.
The advisory issued through the bulletin has informed the public in general that all passengers arriving by trains or any other means into the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir shall be 100 percent tested for COVID-19. All such passengers will be put into mandatory administrative quarantine till their test results come out to be negative or till they are sent to hospital if test results are positive.
It said that all passengers shall be necessarily required to wear face masks / covers and follow social distancing norms. Any violation of these instructions will attract penalties under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other provisions of law. It has explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease.
