Anantnag, May 13: 20 people including 8 cops posted at District Police Lines Anantnag, tested positive for coronavirus in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district during last 24 hours taking the number cases in the district to one hundred forty seven (147).
“21 persons tested positive during last 24 hours. 20 infected persons belong to Anantnag while as 1 is from Kulgam,” Dr Salim Khan, Nodal Officer for COVID 19 at CD Hospital Srinagar told Early Times.
Officials here at Anantnag said that the infected persons were from different areas of the district.
“6 residents from Seerhamdan, 2 from Kokernag, one each from Batengoo, Katriteng and Naibasti Anantnag had tested positive. 8 samples lifted from District Police Lines Anantnag had also tested positive today,” Medical Superintend GMC Anantnag, Dr Majid Mehrab said.
Among 19 infected persons, according to officials eight had recently returned back to their homes from several parts of the country while as others are contacts of coronavirus positive cases. “Preliminary findings suggest maximum numbers of today’s positive cases are close contacts of those positive patients who had tested positive for coronavirus during last weeks in the district and only eight among them are travelers” officials said.
The administration has now declared the native areas of infected persons as red zones
With this addition, the total number of coronavirus infected persons has risen to 147 in the district.
Officials say that aggressive testing and contact tracing in the infected areas is on and more efforts are being made to decontaminate the area.
“Native areas of positive cases are already declared Red Zones in the district. Persons who had came in touch with positive cases are been identified and their samples are being taken,” Dr Farhat, who is the COVID-19 nodal officer said.
Meanwhile six more coronavirus patients including a 8 year old girl were discharged at COVID hospital Bijbehara. So far 18 coronavirus patients have recovered while as 1 pregnant woman had died due to coronavirus in the district.
