SRINAGAR, May 13: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 11 today as an elderly man from Digiana area of Jammu division passed away after falling prey to COVID-19. At the same time 37 new cases of Corona Virus were reported today.
Reports said that a 72-years-old man from Preet Nagar-Digiana tested positive today, a day after his death. This is the 11th casualty due to COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir. The elderly man with multiple health complications including breathing problem was brought to Government Medical College Jammu where doctors declared him as brought dead.
The family members of deceased placed a request before health department to conduct examination of deceased for COVID-19 testing after which his samples were taken on Tuesday late evening and the report was received today evening which came as positive.
Meanwhile, 37 fresh cases of Corona Virus surfaced from different districts of the union territory. While 30 cases were reported from Kashmir valley seven such cases were reported from Jammu division of the union territory. With today’s cases the number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 971.
Anantnag district in South Kashmir reported 18 fresh cases followed by Budgam seven cases, Kathua four cases, Jammu three cases, Kulgam three cases with Shopian and Baramulla districts reporting one case each. There are 494 active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir as on date.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 37 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), seven from Jammu division and 30 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 971. Also 01 death has been reported from Jammu Division, whose sample tested positive for COVID-19.
The bulletin said that out of 971 positive cases, 494 are active positive, 466 have recovered and 11 have died. Moreover, 11 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, two from Jammu division and nine from Kashmir Division. Out of 57,111 test results available, 56,140 samples have tested as negative till May 13, 2020.
Furthermore, till date 1,00,683 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 25,393 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 149 in hospital quarantine, 494 in hospital isolation and 11,694 under home surveillance. Besides, 62,942 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 145 positive cases with 127 active positive, 17 recovered, one death; Srinagar has 137 positive cases with 49 active positive, 84 recovered, four deaths; Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 25 active positive, 108 recovered, one death and Baramulla has 110 positive cases with 50 active positive, 57 recovered, three deaths.
“Shopian has 105 positive cases with 45 active positive, 60 recovered; Kupwara has 83 positive cases with 38 active positive, 45 recovered; Budgam has 52 positive cases with 38 active positive and 14 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with nine active cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 72 positive cases with 66 active positive and six recoveries and Pulwama reported 13 positive cases with nine active positive, four recovered,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 38 positive cases with 11 active positive cases and 26 recoveries and one death; Udhampur has 22 positive cases with two active positive cases, 19 recovered and one death and Samba has 11 positive cases with seven active positive and four recoveries.
“Rajouri has four positive cases and all have recovered; Kathua has 17 positive cases with 16 active positive and one recovered; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered; Ramban has one positive case who has recovered today and Reasi has three positive cases with two active positive and one recovered today,” said the bulletin.
The advisory issued through the bulletin has informed the general public that the best way to protect against COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metre from others and frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand rub or washing them with soap and water. “By doing this you can eliminate viruses that may be on your hands and avoid infection that could occur by then touching your eyes, mouth, and nose”, the people were further informed.
