COVID-19: Break the Chain Otherwise we are not far from a Disaster
5/13/2020 11:57:43 PM
Saima Nissar/ Khair un Nissar

The situation on the global level is going grim day by day, people are caged in their homes to contain this virus. World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Coronavirus (COVID-19) as a global health emergency on the 30th of January 2020 and declared as a pandemic on the 11th of March this year, when this virus spreads among 114 countries now almost in every nation. It was an alarm to the world loud and clear that it is a very serious issue and all the countries need to contain this disease in the initial stages or the first stage but most of the countries failed to do so. A researcher in the faculty of Medical Sciences Zanjan University namely Jiao Shenme Minzi has told the media in the initial days when this outbreak begins in China that coronavirus will arrive in all the countries sooner or later. But countries like Italy, Spain, the USA, Iran, India and, Pakistan had not taken it seriously in early days as the result is now in front of us, like what is happening in these countries in general and particularly in European countries the situation in these countries is disturbing. As the world is in agony, people around the world are very much concerned about this coronavirus outbreak, unfortunate we are living in such a country where people are still making fun of it on social media sites. We are sure these utensils, drum-beating people are unaware of why they had observed a daylong so-called Janta curfew in India on the 22nd of March 2020 at that evening they had celebrated the Janta curfew-like they had won the fight against it. As everyone is very much concerned about it how to contain this virus as it does not have any vaccination or treatment yet. By the evening of 4rd May, more than 248,555 people have died and more than three and a half million people were affected on the global level. Millions of people are losing their jobs according to the US Bureau of Labour Statistics in the last week of April, 20 around 3.8 million lost their jobs as the pandemic has hit hard the US economy. First time in history when the crude oil prices turned into negative in the US. The Global economy is in a recession. All educations institutes are lockdown, business establishments are shut, Saudi authorities have banned the Muslim pilgrimage in holy Macca, all types of religious congregations are canceled first ever in the history, all types of domestic and international flights are being cancelled in various countries, international trade halted among various countries and all types cricket events are being postponed. The First time we have seen such critical situations are prevailing, everyone is in crisis. In a nutshell, people should understand how lethal this virus is, it a matter of urgency to avoid social gatherings, stay indoors, and take proper precautionary measures. Here we mention a famous Urdu quote “Jan hai toh Jahaan hai” which translates if you have a life you have the world.
As we know health emergency has been one of the toughest challenges not in Kashmir but India as well. Had government authorities acted well in time to contain this virus, today the situation would have been different, but the government failed to do so. By the evening of 4rd of May 2020 out of seven hundred COVID-19 positive cases, eight people have died. These positive cases were reported in the last fourty-seven days and thousands have been taken under observations or kept in quarantine. A coming couple of months will be very crucial, as the day before yesterday lockdown was extended by two more weeks pushed to May 17. Literarily, Kashmir was the safest place to avoid this virus as the valley is having single Arial and road connectivity with the rest of the world. As we all know other than NH-44 Srinagar Jammu Highway, all other road connectivity’s are either permanently blocked like Uri-Muzaffarabad road and Teethwal crossing with Pakistan Administered Kashmir or temporarily closed for six months like Mughal Road(NH-44), Srinagar-Leh Highway(NH-1D), Anantnag-Kashtiwar road. Almost 95-96% positive cases are reported from Kashmir valley alone. It is becoming very serious day by day, government administration has declared four districts in red zone areas in Kashmir valley. If this virus is not controlled by maintaining the proper social distances then we are not far from a disaster like the other countries are suffering from this outbreak, so it is an utmost urgency to implement 5th August like curfew restrictions for atleast 28 days in red and orange zone areas to break the chain. Even nowadays people are well known for their serious consequences. Strict restrictions will not harm the people of Kashmir as we have gone through these ways. Till some sort of good news comes from medical researchers we have to implement the strict lockdown to save ourselves as well as others. Now not only the government but every individual has to take their responsibility to curb this virus, as we know doctors and all other paramedical staff are on the front line to contain this virus. It is the time to take lessons from developed countries like the USA, Italy, Spain, and Germany and so on having world-class health systems, where thousands are people are dying on a daily basis. God forbid if this situation will not be controlled as soon as possible millions of people will die in the world. As talking about the country India, if they fail to contain this virus today land will fall short for them tomorrow. People should treat it utmost seriously as India should learn lessons from countries like Italy, Spain, and Iran where thousands of cases are being reported on a daily basis. They too had taken this issue lightly in initial days that is why they are paying for that nowadays. Particularly the situation in Italy, the USA and Spain is going worse day by day. Italy has the world-class health system and now this COVID-19 has pushed it at breaking point. Heaven forfend, let’s envisage for a while if this Virus makes a complete entry in India what would happen, it is beyond everyone’s imaginations. India is having such a health system where one isolation bed per 84 thousand people, as Indian Express reports. India’s medical and health infrastructure will not be enough to tackle the mass outbreak of COVID-19. To contain this virus social distance is the only option and takes all precautionary measures suggested by WHO and the health experts, otherwise millions of people will die. We are confused about why people are still making fun of it on social media. I think it is time to be inside and look inside our deeds.
