Anil demands probe into irregularities in construction of GDC Jindrah building
6/8/2020 10:12:33 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 8: Sarpanch of Jindrah Panchayat Anil Sharma, who is the UT president of All Jammu Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), has urged the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu for ordering a high-level independent probe into irregularities in construction of multi-crore building of Government Degree College (GDC) Jindrah.
He demanded that there should be a security audit of the building and official accountability must be fixed for negligence and lapses.
“Sanctioned way back in 2011, a whopping amount of over Rs 10 crore has been spent on the building but it has developed major cracks even before its inauguration, making it quite unsafe for any kind of use in future. It has shattered the dreams of young students from over 100 villages as they were hoping for a good future in terms of quality education in the area,” Sharma told reporters here on Monday.
He said the selection of land for construction of the college building was faulty and all standard norms were violated at that time.
The Sarpanch said, “We request the Lieutenant Governor to order a high-level independent probe into all bunglings and irregularities in construction work that has now jeopardized the future of thousands of young students from villages”.
Sharma said the Lieutenant Governor should also order for immediate security audit of the building and official responsibility must be fixed in the criminal negligence so that the guilty are punished.
“On Sunday, the UT administration sent a team of officers to inspect the shoddy work being executed by the contractor and executing agency. We don’t have much faith in such inspections. It is the high time that the Lieutenant Governor should order an independent probe to make things crystal clear. Till the outcome of the inquiry, the so-called renovation work must be stopped”.
He also warned local people would not tolerate the attempt on the part of administration to shield the guilty and they would hit the roads if the guilty are not booked under law.
