Early Times Report

Jammu, June 8: Under the nose of district administration Jammu, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders have continued to jeopardize the health of common citizens by organizing public meetings, openly flouting social distancing norms as well as other measures.
After holding a series of public meetings in various areas of Jammu district, in total violation of health advisories the latest public meeting was organized by Deputy Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Advocate Purnima Sharma that too at a time, when the COVID-19 infections have continued to show an upward trend.
As per photographs and press release circulated in the media, the meeting was organized in Ward number 53 of Trikuta Nagar, where Deputy Mayor had gone to kick start the sanitation drive to cater COVID-19.
Though in the press release, it was clearly mentioned that Trikuta Nagar Ward number 53 is under “Red zone” and the Deputy Mayor took initiative to cater the demand of local people. As per the photographs, she was felicitated by some people with a photograph of “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi”.
Seven people could be seen in the photograph, felicitating the Deputy Mayor and all are standing shoulder to shoulder with each other. Not even a single person had his/her face mask on their mouth and nose.
Three persons had no face mask at all while the four others had face-masks with them but clanging in their necks and not covering their mouths. In another photograph, over fifteen people could be seen sitting in a room, flouting the social distancing norms as well as health advisories. “It is still unclear as whether the district administration has given the permission to hold public meetings to the BJP leaders or they have been doing the same without caring anything about the administration”, a local leader said, adding that for the last many days, the BJP leaders have been organizing the public meetings while the silence of district administration signalled towards their complacency.
A politician said that the BJP has been openly organizing the public-meetings in Jammu that too at a time, when COVID-19 cases have been increasing with each passing day in Jammu. “Any person could be a potential carrier of the infection but it seems that the BJP leaders are more concerned about their publicity rather than health of the public”, a politician rued.
