Early Times Report

REASI, June 15: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) was introduced to provide houses to the people who belong to lower strata of society and do not have the income to construct their own houses. The scheme has been ‘misused’ in this district.
Sources told Early Times that the Sarpanchs, Panchs, Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) and Village Level Worker (VLW) of Panchayat Sadeen Kothian in the Pouni tehsil have ensured that the deserving are left out of the PMAY scheme. They said that instead of poor people the people belonging to well off families have been included in the list of beneficiaries.
“The team comprising of Sarpanchs, Panchs, VLW and GRS have prepared a list of 166 families who would be covered under the PMAY scheme. Among the beneficiaries hardly 20 percent are genuine with the rest being rich people or having government employment. Just 32 families are entitled to the houses under the PMAY with the rest being non-deserving,” said sources.
Sources said that the PMAY was introduced so as to provide houses to the people having kucha houses adding that the people shown as beneficiaries in this case have pucca houses. They said that in some of the cases the families having three or four members are government employees have been shown as poor and in dire need of proper housing.
“In certain cases Lumberdar, Panch, GRS have been shown as deserving ones despite the fact that they come from well off and settled families.
A GRS by the name of Monika Sharma has included her name in the list and has also included her father in law in the same list as well. A Sarpanch has also included his relatives in the list while as some people who have already got houses have been shown as beneficiaries yet again,” said sources.
Sources said that deserving people like Ashok Kumar, Bitu Ram, Ram Lal, Ajay Kumar, Subhash Chander and many others have been left out. They said that a widow who has three children and has no source of income has also not been shown as a beneficiary in the PMAY scheme.
Director Rural Development Department (RDD) Jammu, Darshan Lal said that stern action would be taken against the officials once it is proved that they have left out deserving people in the list of beneficiaries under the PMAY scheme. He assured that nobody would be spared once the guilt is proved
