Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 19: Notwithstanding tall claims of the Administration of Jammu and Kashmir that all arrangements have been put in place to meet with any eventualities caused due to COVID- 19 pandemic which has claimed scores of lives in Jammu and Kashmir yet no proper arrangements were visible on ground to perform last rites of COVID-19 pandemic victims with dignity, respect and honour who unfortunately fell prey to deadly corona virus and succumbed.
A cross section of people have expressed their grave resentment over Thursday’s episode when relatives of a COVID- 19 victim found it difficult to cremate the dead body at any specific cremation ground despite their hard efforts and as a result two more deaths took place while taking the body to outskirts of Jammu city near Sidhra to perform last rites which was indeed an unexpected and very shocking incident.
They expressed resentments on the episode and this is third time when such death victim, their kith and kin face great hardships and humiliation in cremation process which needs to be streamlined on priority basis on humanitarian grounds.
The incident was condemned by one and all in the civilized society and many questions were raised regarding the arrangements that were supposed to be made for dignified last rites of those persons who die of COVID-19 pandemic, some senior civil society members said while talking to Early Times here today.
The Jammu and Kashmir union territory administration must take measures to ensure burial, cremation and all other activities related to last rites of such people at specific places with full dignity, they further added.
Meanwhile, BJP Kashmir Displaced District has expressed great shock and grief over the deaths of COVID- 19 positive patients in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir in general and Jammu in particular. In a statement issued here today, Chand Ji Bhat, prabhari KDD,
Bharat Bhushan Bhat (Gosani), Shuban Pandit, Makhan Lal Bhat vice presidents, Vinod Pandita general secretary and other office bearers have expressed great shock and grief over Thursday’s episode that took place in Sidhra cremation ground during the performing of last rites of corona positive case where two relatives of a COVID victim died after falling unconscious due to heat stroke and high temperature even much before pyres were burnt because there were no proper facilities in place at cremation site which was a matter of serious concern and exhibits sheer negligence on the part of administration.
People have urged Lt Governor administration of J&K UT to identify proper cremation sites for such people and ensure proper facilities on sites as well directions be imparted to the District administration to facilitate the process of cremation with honour and dignity of all such people who die due to corona as last rites are supposed to be performed with all the respect they deserve.
