Yoga to combat Coronavirus
6/20/2020 12:02:27 AM
Omkar Dattatray

World is preparing to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on 21st of June amid corona crises and on this solemn occasion we should take pleasure to practice yoga and also to exercise yoga to combat covid-19. More appropriately, the theme of the current year for the International Yoga day is “Yoga for Health – Yoga at Home”. The international day of yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The draft resolution establishing the international day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states. The proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly, in which he said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, a holistic approach that is valuable to our health and our well being. Yoga is not just about exercise, it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.” Moreover, Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in performance of one’s actions. Though we have excelled in science and technology but still we are not able to make a vaccine to fight the covid-19.Therefore we have to depend on the ancient philosophy of yoga to fight the coronavirus. As such the humanity has to use the spirituality and the science of yoga to fight the covid-19 which has gripped the whole world. While the social distancing measures adopted by countries to fight the covid-19 pandemic have shut down yoga studios and other communal spaces, yoga practitioners have turned to home practice and online yoga resources. Yoga is a powerful tool to deal with the stress of uncertainty and isolation, as well as to maintain physical well-being. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘Yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizes the union of body and consciousness. Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. As it is obvious that the virus is spreading its tentacles in the people who have less immunity like small kids and the older people. So the right thing is to increase the immunity among the people. Thus we should aim at increasing the immunity of the people so that the people will not fall prey to the deadly virus. It thus fallows that we should practise yogic exercises so that the immune system is strengthened and we will not be affected by the virus. Therefore to keep the epidemic at bay we should practise yoga and also to take Patanjali medicines which are produced from the medicinal plants and are hundred percent indigenous. In other words when the science fails to invent the medicine of the covid-19, we should fall back upon the Indian system of the medicines. Thus the mix of spirituality and the yogic exercises as well as the medicines proposed and recommended by yoga Guru Baba Ramdev will be of great help to fight the coronavirus and therefore we should take the indigenous medicines and practice the yogic exercises so that the immune system is strengthened. In this way we will be able to keep the deadly virus at a distance because the person with a strong immune system will not be attacked by the covid-19.Therefore we should not lose hope as the researchers are working hard to innovate the vaccine to combat the disease but at the same time we should bank upon the ancient system of yoga and the Indian system of medicines to fight back the virus. So the happy blend of science and ancient system of yoga can help us to fight the virus. Thus the two streams of science and ancient philosophy of yoga will give a death kneel to the coronavirus .So both the science and spirituality are complementary and supplementary to each other and the mix of the two can rid us from the virus which is threatening the whole humanity. However we should not lose hope and use the modern medicines and the ancient system of yoga to fight the covid-19 and the need of the hour is to use modern science and the old system of yogic exercises to increase the immune system in the people so that they will not the victims of the coronavirus. Therefore it is in the interest of the humanity to use the ancient system of yoga and supplement it with the modern system of the science to keep the virus at a distance so that we will not be exposed to the virus. Thus medical science and the old system of Ayurveda along with the yogic postures are of great help to combat the disease and save the hundreds of the precious lives. Maharishi Patanjali has said, “Heyam Dukham Annagattam”, which implies that the purpose of yoga is to get rid of the misery even before it comes. Yoga aims at sound mind in a sound body and so we should use the science of yoga to fig ht the coronavirus so that we will lead a healthy and happy life. Making of asanas, pranayama and meditation should be a part of our daily routine and this will keep us fit and healthy which in turn will definitely strengthen the immunity of the people who practice the yogic exercises and this way we will be able to fight the covid-19. Anyway we should practise yoga and also take indigenous medicines as also the modern medicines to combat the covid-19.There is no difference of opinion among the experts about the fact that the weak immune system attracts the virus and therefore we should aim at the strong immune system so that we can keep the disease at a distance. To conclude we can say that the happy blend of modern medical science and the ancient yoga system will keep the coronavirus at a distance and the precious lives will be saved.
