REASI, June 26: For the past two years or so the residents of a Panchayat in a tehsil of this district are waiting for work on the construction of a common facility centre to be started so that they are entitled to benefits that accrue.
Sources told Early Times that the foundation stone for the common facility centre was laid by then Minister of State for Finance & Planning, Ajay Nanda on June 2, 2018 and it was expected that the work would be started soon. However, two years down the line nothing of that sort has happened.
“For the past two years not a single stone has been moved at the construction site and the whole process has been stalled. The only work that has been done is that the plinth has been raised and earth filling has also been carried out. As far as other aspects of construction work are concerned there is a big zero,” said sources. The common facility centre was expected to come up at a cost of 33.63 lakhs in the Sadeen Kothian Panchayat of Pouni tehsil and once completed it would have opened vistas of peoples’ satisfaction. The hopes of the people have been dashed since the construction work on the common facility centre has not at all started.
The locals approached the Block Development Officer (BDO) Pouni with the complaint but they said that the response was cold-shouldered. They said that the contract has been awarded to a person who has no experience in the specified work and no action has been taken against him. They alleged that the BJP leaders and workers have a habit of making tall claims but doing nothing on ground.
When Early Times tried to contact the contractor he did not pick up the phone. The BDO Pouni Om Prakash said that he is in a meeting and as such cannot talk. The locals have urged LG administration to intervene in the matter and that stern action should be taken against the concerned officials and the contractor.
