Provide security to BDC Chairpersons, Sarpanchs
7/11/2020 11:52:23 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 11: BDC Chairperson Dansal, Reena Thappa resented over the callous attitude of J&K Government for not showing its serious concern towards the grievances of elected Panchayat members in general and BDC Chairpersons in particular in the J&K Union Territory.
Flagging concern about killing of political leaders in J&K, Reena Thappa condemned the J&K Government’s casual approach for doing nothing for the security of the elected BDC Chairpersons. She accused the Centre and the J&K Government of not making proper security arrangements for the safety of Panchayat Members in J&K.
“We have already lost several Panchayat members and dozens were injured in various attacks but the government has not taken any step to protect them,” Thappa said.
“We are not scared of threats. We are in the democratic process just to serve the masses and have nothing to do with the larger political Kashmir-issue,” BDC Chairperson said, adding that such acts and activities of militants would never weaken their resolve and stand for democracy.
While condemning the demise of BJP leader Wasim Bari and his family members by militants in Bandipora, Thappa termed this killing as the frustration of the terrorists sponsored by Pakistan to derail the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is very unfortunate, we have always been for the past so many years demanding security for the Panchayat members of J&K. Neither the previous government nor the present Central Government is taking any action in this regard,” she added.
Reiterating the demand, the BDC Chairperson demanded immediate security cover to all the Panchayat members and elected BDC Chairpersons of J&K. She also appealed to the government to formulate a strategy to stop further killing in J&K UT.
