Jammu sets an example
7/23/2020 11:51:03 PM
Lockdown has returned to Kashmir due to surge in the COVID-19 cases. The situation turning fragile in the Valley forced authorities to re-impose strict lockdown. Till date Kashmir has recorded 264 deaths and Jammu 20. Situation in Jammu is better than Kashmir as the people in this region have been following the COVID norms in letter and spirit. But the same cannot be said about Kashmir.
According to the media reports, speculations were rife in Kashmir that COVID-19 is a hoax and there is nothing much to worry and this led to the infection spreading like wildfire. Recently Kashmir administration announced stern measures to make people follow the COVID-19 norms.
People of Jammu should learn from the mistakes of Kashmiri people. If they keep on following the COVID-19 norms the infection can be kept under control. If they become complacent situation can take an ugly turn even in Jammu. In the recent past there were reports that migrant labourers from other states were entering into Jammu through Ravi River. This had pressed the panic button. These labourers were reportedly avoiding Lakhanpur so that they don’t end up in quarantine centers. But the issue was sorted out to prevent situation from turning catastrophic.
Media has been abuzz with the news stories about trials of COVID vaccine being successful and there being a possibility about the COVID cure being found by September. We have to be patient and show the resilience that we have been showing since March this year. The new dawn is about to break and defeat of the COVID is inevitable. But we have to be careful till the virus is defeated completely.
Jammu has shown the way not only to Kashmir but to rest of the country. The exemplary discipline followed by the people has to great extent helped in preventing the spread of COVID in Jammu region.
Precautions being taken by the people played a pivotal role in keeping things under control.
We are in the last phase of pandemic and worst is all set to get over. We have to ensure that we don’t breakdown and give up. All of us have faced economic losses. At present priority are not the losses. We have to save human lives and have to ensure that we don’t put our life and lives of others at stake.
