BSNL takes six months to acknowledge cable fault, still then does not rectify it

SRINAGAR, July 23: In this super-sonic age where it takes few hours for a telecom company to allot a telephone connection, the government owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) takes months together to rectify a cable fault and still then the dead phone does not ring again.
For the past seven months a resident of Soura in the summer capital of union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has been running from pillar to post in order to rectify the fault of his phone. Despite repeated promises and assurances by the people at helm at BSNL, the fault is yet to be rectified and the resident continues to suffer.
“My phone number 0194-2404256 developed some fault in January this year and I thought the fault would be rectified in no time. However, my hopes were dashed and the phone is yet to be set right. Since January I have been regularly paying the bills and there has been no delay from my side in this regard,” said the resident
The resident said that since January he has been making calls on regular basis to the line staff as well as other officials of BSNL so that the phone connection is restored. He goes on to say that complaint has also been lodged with the concerned quarters on many occasions, but there has been no solution to his problem.
“On July 3, I moved an application with SDO (Phones) BSNL Exchange Soura and asked the officer to rectify the fault so that my phone is workable. Through the application I also urged the officer to waive off my charges for the period my phone was not working and sought refund of the amount paid by me,” said the resident.
In the report, the SDE of the concerned exchange acknowledged the fact and said that by going by the report of field staff and CDR/fault register records the telephone number 0194-2404256 was not working from 01-01-2020 to 30-05-2020 due to the cable fault. The waive off for the charges of the above period is recommended (subject to usage check & norms in place), the officer wrote on 09-07-2020.
“Although two weeks have passed since then neither the telephone has been restored nor has been the repayment made. This goes on to show the non-seriousness on the part of BSNL and it would be better that it is called Bekaar Sanchar Nigam Limited and not Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited,” said the resident.
Yet another resident of Sanat Nagar said that he was forced to discontinue the broadband service of BSNL on his landline since the same was not working altogether plus the speed was too low. The resident said that his landline number was out of service for three weeks and it was only after lodging a complaint with the higher ups that the phone was restored.
