Srinagar, Oct 3: Traffic on the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was resumed on Saturday after remaining closed on Friday to allow maintenance and repair work on the only road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
However, the historic 86-km-long Mughal road and national highway, linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir, are through for traffic, a traffic police official told UNI this morning.
He said traffic was resumed at 1045 hrs on the Srinagar-Jammu highway after a green signal was received that maintenance and repair work has been completed.
He said traffic was suspended on Friday to undertake maintenance work by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and other agencies as due to landslides and shooting stones, the road at several places had become very narrow where only one vehicle can pass.
The affected areas on the highway included Dungi Pulli, Trishul Morh, Panthyal and Magarkote where frequent landslides and shooting stones disrupt traffic movement.
He said as per schedule announced earlier traffic was allowed to ply from Srinagar to Jammu after maintenance work was completed today. However, commuters are advised to follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the government to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
